Viral marketing is an inexpensive online marketing strategy to promote your business. It involves several methods which are done to inform as many people as possible about the products and/or services that you offer. It aims to increase brand awareness and spread the word about something to the target market in a relatively short period of time.

Unlike word of mouth which involves disseminating information but eventually dies out, viral marketing aims to reach a lot of people who will also pass the information to other people. If the viral marketing campaign does not die out, it is a successful marketing strategy. It just grows as more and more people are informed about what you offer.

There are a lot of tools or methods used in viral marketing campaigns. These include dissemination of newsletters, adding site url in all outgoing emails, site url in avatar, posting useful and interesting comments on blogs and online discussions, promos, ebooks or white papers which are offered for free, and cross-promotion of sites.

One important thing to remember when it comes to viral marketing is that what you offer should be interesting and beneficial to your target market. People will not pass information if it is not new and useful. Be innovative and always have something new to offer so people will continue to pass the information to others.

Also, make it easy for people to share the information. Whether it is an ebook, image or article, make sure that they will be able to share it with their friends easily.    May these basic tips in viral marketing help you to get started in developing your brand and spreading the word about what you offer.
